What is your favorite place/places in the world to visit?
Fredric S. Brandt, M.D., the man behind the flawless faces of countless celebs, talks with Stephanie Maxwell about the biggest beauty myth and his favorite Brandt product.
Brandt’s offices in Manhattan and Coral Gables, Florida are the world’s biggest users of Botox and he is known as the Master Injector of such fillers as Restylane and Perlane. But his home products are in equally high demand. Fresh off a six-week stint as host of his own call-in show on Sirius XM radio, he made time to talk to Maxwell Aesthetics’ Stephanie Maxwell, a longtime fan and friend:
Fred Brandt is cutting edge, eager to please, possessed of an uber chic wardrobe, and, above all, fun. He smiles, you smile. He gives you his opinion, you cling to his every word. His celeb clients include such A-listers as Madonna, Stephanie Seymour, Kelly Ripa, and Demi Moore. But no worries if you’re not on that list—he treats everyone the same. His devoted fans follow him from New York to Coral Gables, and a lucky few get house calls in between, but you don’t need an appointment to have access to what Ripa calls his “miracle concoctions.” At Maxwell Aesthetics we carry my top picks from Dr. Brandt skincare. I personally use the collagen booster, the flaws no more r3p cream and r3p eye Cream, the detoxygen experience, the time Arrest v-zone neck cream, and the time arrest cream de LUXE. Our patients at Maxwell also adore the pores no more line. Below, Fred answers a few quick questions.
What is your favorite place/places in the world to visit?
Paris and London
Your runner-up career?
Architect [It should be noted that Brandt already had one impressive runner-up career. Before he switched to dermatology, he was a cancer researcher at Sloan-Kettering where he specialized in the research and treatment of leukemia. There, he was a pioneer in the discovery of anti-oxidants to fight free radical damage, on which he now bases his skin-care line.]
Favorite way to spend time?
With my three dogs Benji, Tyler, and Surya
Your favorite Brandt skincare product?
My collagen booster stimulates collagen production and prevents degradation from glycation, where sugar binds to collagen and elastin and weakens structure.
Biggest beauty myth?
That makeup protects your skin…I’m very diligent about sunscreen. That’s the one mistake people make – they don’t wear sunscreen every day. You have to realize that even through a window you get UVA or longwave ultraviolet damage, even in your car. A lot of people have more spots and wrinkles on the left side of the face from driving, so that’s why it’s so important to wear sunblock.
Signature style?
Funky, modern, runway ready
Recent splurge?
A Balmain suit
You don’t leave home without?
My iPhone
Always in your refrigerator?
Green vegetables for juicing
Favorite contemporary art piece?
I have so many. But my favorite is probably my first Richard Prince painting from 1989.

Guy Talk
Ask most married men what they use on their skin and most likely they will say whatever is in my wife’s drawer.
Enter Alford and Hoff.
This skincare line was developed by three men, Barry Alford, Jefferson Hoffman, and my good friend LA plastic surgeon Dr. John Gross. Thus , filling a huge void in the Mens luxury skincare market.
My hubby loves the Shave Performance cream and the Sirtuin-Activating Concentrate.
This line is so good that I will be the one in his drawers!
4D Imaging System: Visualize Your Anticipated Breast Augmentation

One of the most challenging aspects of breast augmentation is determining the size and shape of breast implants that will fit your body, as well as give you the result you desire. Patients always want to know “How will I look?”. Now, it is possible for you to actual visualize your anticipated final form with specific breast implants. Working with engineers and software experts in Silicon Valley, Dr. Maxwell has invented and developed a state-of-the-art 4-D Imaging System that is the most advanced in aesthetic surgery.
In addition to designing breast implants used today (Natrelle collection from Allergan), Dr. Maxwell pioneered current concepts used in breast analysis and aesthetic enhancement years ago, when he developed the “Biodimensional System, ” utilizing breast measurements, implant dimensions and tissue analysis to better plan breast augmentation and reconstruction. The new 4-D imaging system he is now introducing, better known as “Precision Light Breast Analysis”, sets a new standard in the breast aesthetic consultation. Now, you can see how YOU will look with specific implants! While this is not to be implied as a warranty of the surgical result, it does provide a visual communication aid for you to give Dr. Maxwell, allowing you to participate visually and actively in decisions that will affect your own body. In fact, the overwhelming satisfaction of patients who have utilized this system has led them to ask: “How did plastic surgeons do breast augmentation consultations before this system was developed?”
In addition to outcome simulations, the “Precision Light” 4-D Imaging System captures all breast measurements, volume analysis, and bone contour irregularities, enabling better surgical planning, to produce better outcomes.
Come see the NEW YOU before your eyes at Maxwell Aesthetics!
At-Home Beauty Gadgets: We’ve Come a Long Way
I remember when hot rollers were high tech. Since then, we’ve come a long way. Today’s at-home beauty gadgetry is more advanced than ever, promising increasingly dramatic results. Here are a few of my favorite at-home beauty picks.
Baby Quasar
Plenty of at-home beauty gadgets have popped up over the last few years, but the latest to grab my attention is the Baby Quasar. This anti-aging device uses non-invasive wavelengths of red light and infrared LED lights to penetrate deep within the skin, stimulating fibroblast cells. Collagen and elastin production is encouraged, pore size is reduced, fine lines and wrinkles are less visible, and skin tone and texture are improved.
Philips Sonicare
The first to come out with sonic cleansing was the Philips Sonicare toothbrush. You can’t forget about your teeth when you take care of your face because your smile is the first thing someone notices about you. All it takes is one overnight trip without your Sonicare to make you realize how much you miss that feeling of clean.
Clarisonic®
Next to use sonic technology was Clarisonic®. Hopefully, all of you have a sonic skin cleansing system by now. Love what your Clarisonic does for your face? That’s not the only place that can benefit from the sonic cleansing brush. Clarisonic can do your body plenty of good, especially when you incorporate the body brush with Fat Girl scrub or David Kirsch Slim Sculpting Scrub, both on Taigan.com.
Clarisonic has long been considered an innovator of sonic technology, and now they’ve introduced an instant brightening tool that uses sonic micromassage to wake up tired-looking eyes. The Clarisonic Opal™ Sonic Infusion System is applied to the eye area and moved around the bone in a circular motion. Twenty seconds under each eye is all it takes to brighten, refresh, hydrate and reduce the appearance of fine lines.
Bliss® Pore-Fector
Also jumping on the sonic cleansing bandwagon is the new bliss® pore-fector gadget. A power purge for plugged pores, this ‘grime’-fighting tool generates sonic vibrations that, coupled with bliss daily detoxifying facial toner, create micro-jets to deep clean clogged complexions. As if that weren’t enough, it will also help to massage products (like Neocutis BIO-GEL or Intraceuticals Rejuvenate Hydration Gel) onto the skin’s surface.
TRIA Laser Hair Removal
The TRIA Laser Hair Removal System is the latest FDA-cleared at-home device for hair removal. If you’ve been waxing for more than a year, then this at-home, permanent hair removal device would have already paid for itself. Consider this safe, simple device to stamp-out stubble anywhere below the neck. Using technology originally developed for doctors and dermatologists, the FDA-cleared TRIA Laser targets pigment in the hair and uses heat to disable the hair follicle, causing the hair to gradually fall out and stop growing back.
At the end of the day , there are definitely some goals that cannot be achieved without an office visit. Choosing the Right Sunscreen
You may feel inundated with sunscreen information, but apparently, it hasn’t been enough to help stop skin cancer from occurring at an increasing rate. One of the most important things you can do is use sunscreen every day. Zinc Oxide is one of the safest and most effective active ingredients in sun protection. It provides a physical (not chemical) barrier between you and the sun. Invisible Zinc® Sunscreen uses micro-fine Zinc Oxide (not nano) which makes it cosmetically elegant and invisible to the naked eye while still providing outstanding broad spectrum protection against UVA and UVB rays.
Tips:
The head is incredibly susceptible to UV rays, but it’s often forgotten. A hat is the best form of protection, but you can also apply sunscreen along your part, on your ears, on the back of your neck, and other frequently overlooked areas. You may also want to use hair-care products that contain UV filters like Neil George Conditioning and detangle spray with UV Protector. Look for products infused with the botanicals jojoba and calendula to condition and protect your hair from the perils of heat and the environment.
Keep in mind that everyone needs a little sun exposure. The problem is, we don’t know when to stop. Without enough sunlight, the body might not build up enough vitamin D, which helps protect from cancer and a host of other illnesses. That is why the flu is more prevalent in the winter when we tend to get less exposure. Try to get at least 10,000 IU of Vitamin D, either by lying in the sun for about 15 minutes or by taking a daily supplement.
